Christine Delaine – Taking charge of your health one meal at a time

About me

Hi, I’m Christine

I’m a nutritionist and health writer who loves all things health, food and cooking. You’ll often find me looking at recipes, cooking or reading journal articles when I should be cleaning the house!

I believe cooking your own meals is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. I want to show you that cooking your own meals does not need to be difficult or involve expensive ingredients.

My motto is “Take charge of your health one meal at a time

We live in a world where convenience foods are all around us whenever we go out AND also appear on our television screens and social media.

All foods can be part of a healthy diet, and I’m not going to berate you for reaching for some chips or chocolate (insert your vice) every now and then. Just make sure you enjoy it and savour every mouthful, and stop when you’ve had enough.

It’s what you eat most of the time that makes a difference.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to health. I understand that what works for some will not work for others. I believe that all foods can be part of a healthy diet and give realistic advice that can fit in with your lifestyle.
I can provide written content and practical sessions.

My background

I’ve always loved to cook and had keen interest in nutrition so have completed a few short courses over the years. I was working in administration roles when I had an epiphany which saw me take the plunge to embark on some formal qualifications. This saw me delving into a new world of chemistry, biochemistry and physiology.

In 2014 I completed a Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science from the University of South Australia!

I keep up to date with latest developments by reading widely and attending seminars and webinars.

Qualifications

  • Simple Science Writing , Health Writer Hub 2016
  • Bachelor of Nutrition & Food Sciences, University of South Australia
    2011- 2014
  • Facilitate Individual Learning – (Certificate IV Training & Assessment) April 2007

My experience

I’ve worked in a health environment for six years. I’ve planned and delivered health education sessions in the community with and without a cooking component, and written health content for several not-for profit organisations.

My natural engaging presentation and writing style, as well as my detailed knowledge of physiology, biochemistry and food science enables me to translate the science into everyday language.

I have designed facilitated and evaluated nutrition and health education sessions with a variety of groups. These programs aim to improve participant’s health, resilience and functioning. Feedback I have received includes “It was a wonderful session and you had the group so engaged and sharing their stories” and “very understanding of the client base and confident in what you did”.

Workshops can be designed to suit your needs, including:

  • Evidence based education on health and nutrition
  • Cooking demonstration with recipes
  • Practical cooking classes including recipe modification
  • Supermarket tours and label reading

I can provide a wide range of written resources, including:

Newsletters

  • Appealing presentations including actionable resources on a range of health related topics
  • Patient education resources that reflect current best practice and suit a range of literacy levels
  • Health resources for your staff

In order to enhance my skills, I recently completed a Health Writing course to develop my communication skills and enhance my ability to write clear, simple and engaging content.
If you think your organisation could use my skills and experience, I’d love to hear from you!
